What Is Recovery?

Recovery can be referred to as, a holistic approach with an emphasis on developing hope, sustaining motivation, feeling empowered and regaining control over one’s life despite experiencing mental health issues (Sainsbury Centre for Mental Health, 2007). Recovery is now at the forefront of government health policies such as ‘No health without mental health’. Mental health trusts are increasingly adopting the philosophy of recovery in their service and practice delivery. This has also meant that occupational therapists working within the fields of mental health and forensic have increasingly been required to deliver assessments and interventions with a recovery focus.

What Is The Purpose Of This Study?

  • To identify occupational therapist perspective on recovery
  • To ascertain the impact of emerging health policies on the role of occupational therapist in mental health and forensic services
  • To ascertain the role of the occupational therapist in recovery in mental health and forensic settings
  • To identify if there are any changes within the role of the occupational therapist as a consequence of working within a recovery approach
  • To identify if there are any challenges for occupational therapist to implement the recovery approach within the scope of their job role in the specific settings

How To Participate?

We are currently recruiting participants to take part in our research project to find out occupational therapists’ perspective on recovery in mental health and forensic services.

If you have a minimum of one year experience working in either a mental health setting or a forensic mental health setting, we would like to hear from you.

It would require 30-40 minutes of your time to take part in a semi-structured telephone interview.

You could contribute to the research in this area that could inform service managers and commissioner of services to the value of occupational therapists working in mental health.
